CORVALLIS - Applications are available for the Lillian and Paul Petri Music-Study Scholarships, which award a total of $12,500 to two Oregon musicians.

Applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 35 and perform on piano, organ, harpsichord or orchestral instruments, or in voice, in the European art music tradition. The scholarships are intended to help broaden the scope of a musician's present training.

Auditions will be held March 18-19, in the Walker Recital Hall at Oregon State University. Selection will be based on applicants' solo performances at the audition and their future professional plans.

The Petri Scholarships are administered by the Benton County Foundation. The original scholarship was established through the estate of Paul Petri, professor of music and head of the OSU Department of Music 1923-1947, and his wife Lillian. Since their inception in 1962, awards have been granted to 21 top Oregon musicians. Soprano Misook Yun and violinist Alice Blankenship, both of Eugene, were the 1998 first-place and second-place recipients. The scholarship provides the first place winner with $7,500 and second place winner with $5,000.

Applications, which must be postmarked on or before Jan. 28, are available by writing to Marge Victor, auditions coordinator, Department of Music, Benton 101, Oregon State University, Corvallis, 97331-2502 or by calling 541-737-5592.
