CORVALLIS - Oregon State University students are putting sibling rivalry aside as they organize the university's first-ever Sibling's Day celebration for Saturday, April 10.

"The whole point of Sibling's Day is for OSU students to spend a weekend with their brothers or sisters," said Maria Nguyen, director of OSU's Sibling's Day committee.

When students move away from home to attend college, that typically means siblings start drifting apart, Nguyen said. But with Sibling's Day, OSU students are planning to stall that trend, she said.

The event also gives brothers and sisters a chance to experience a college campus, and perhaps get them interested in attending OSU, she said.

Among activities planned will be dances, drawing and watercolor workshops, a comedy show, as well as plenty of opportunities to just relax together, Nguyen said. Activities cover a range of ages, from elementary school to adult.

"I'm excited about it, and more than anything else, we just want people to have fun," she said.

The event is sponsored by the OSU Memorial Union Program Council, a student-run group that plans and organizes campus activities.
