CORVALLIS - Oregon State University's Department of Art has awarded 14 scholarships to students for the coming academic year, which begins Sept. 27.

The department offers bachelor degrees in fine art, graphic design, photography and art history, and maintains The Fine Arts Collection, consisting of medieval illuminated manuscripts, European and Japanese prints, modern paintings, prints, mosaics, sculpture and crafts.

Scholarship winners include:

 

  • AMITY: Shanna Albers, freshman in graphic design, $750 Ida M. Matsen Freshman Foundation Award. It was established in 1981 honoring Matsen, who served on OSU's faculty from 1927-49.

     

  • CORVALLIS: Lisa Christensen, senior in fine arts, $750 Fine Arts Award in Painting Scholarship, established in 1974 by Shepard and Gloria Levine; Kathryn Law, post-baccalaureate in fine arts, $750 Hollands Memorial Scholarship, established in 1962 by Harold Hollands, OSU professor, in memory of his wife, Rachel.

     

  • EUGENE: Jeff Jimerson, senior in graphic design, $250 Graphic Design Achievement Award

     

  • FAIRVIEW: Holly Gresham, junior in photography, $300 American Dream Pizza Award.

     

  • GRESHAM: Rena Schlachter, sophomore in art, and Benjamin Stagl, freshman in graphic design, $750 Matsen-Davidson Awards, established in 1979 by Iva Matsen.

     

  • LAKE OSWEGO: Christopher Buckingham, senior in fine arts, $1,500 Yaquina Art Association Scholarship and $1,500 Sponenburgh Travel Grant, established in memory of Mark Sponenburgh, an OSU professor of art.

     

  • LINCOLN CITY: Hyung-Ju Jee, senior in fine arts, $1,000 Norma Seibert Print Scholarship, established in 1976 by Seibert, a former Corvallis resident

     

  • PORTLAND: Sherry Holliday (97230), sophomore in graphic design, $750 Hollands Memorial Scholarship, established in 1962 by Harold Hollands, OSU professor, in memory of his wife, Rachel.

     

  • SALEM: Eric Bailey, junior in fine arts, $750 Art Department Faculty Award; Brooke Baird, junior in graphic design, $1,000 Wayne Takami Memorial Scholarship, established in 1973 to honor Takami, an OSU art student who died in his senior year.

     

  • TUALATIN: Stacy Nikkila, freshman in art, $750 Ida M. Matsen Award, established in 1981 to honor Matsen, who served on OSU's faculty from 1927-49.
