CORVALLIS - Nine Oregon State University undergraduates in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics have earned honors for their academic and community work.

The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees that prepare students for varied careers, including agribusiness, financial and insurance fields, and agricultural or resource management. The curriculum covers a number of areas, including marketing, business management, production and trade.

Students honored include:

• ASTORIA: Janae Cruikshank, junior in agricultural business management, Agricultural Cooperative Council of Oregon Scholarship Award, given in honor of Paul Carpenter, a long-time OSU extension specialist, who served as secretary of the council.

   

• BROOKS: Bryan Henny, junior in agricultural business management, Oregon Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Award.

   

• CENTRAL POINT: Chad Griffin, junior in agricultural and resource economics, Rachel and Harold Hollands Scholarship, established by Harold Hollands, an OSU professor of agricultural and resource economics, in memory of Rachel Hollands.

   

• CORVALLIS: Hilary Derry, sophomore in agricultural business management, William P. "Chip" Harris Memorial Scholarship, established in 1988 in memory of William P. "Chip" Harris.

   

• EAGLE POINT: Heidi Scheffler, senior in agricultural business management, Western Agricultural Economics Association Outstanding Senior Award - Certificate of Merit.

   

• MADRAS: Jody Nartz, freshman in agricultural and resource economics, D. Curtis Mumford Award, established in memory of Mumford, an OSU professor of agricultural and resource economics; Melissa Nartz, junior in agricultural and resource economics, Ermine L. and Norma Olson Potter Memorial Award, in memory of the Potters. Ermine Potter was the first chief of the university's agricultural economics division.

   

• PRATUM: Jonathan Kuenzi, junior in agricultural business management, LeRoy Breithaupt Award, established in 1974 in memory of LeRoy Breithaupt who was an OSU professor in agricultural and resource economics and an extension director.

   

• WOODBURN: F. Mitch Magenheimer, senior in agricultural business management, Oregon Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers Award.
