CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will host an all-day symposium on Feb. 18 to recognize wheat breeder Warren Kronstad's decades of service to the wheat industry of Oregon.

The symposium will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at OSU's LaSells Stewart Center in Corvallis. A free, public lecture by Nobel laureate Norman Borlaug will follow at 8 p.m.

The symposium will highlight Kronstad's international programs. Speakers include Borlaug; Rollie Sears, Kansas State University; Arthur Klatt, Oklahoma State University; Dana Dalrymple, U.S. Agency for International Development; Bruce Maunder, retired vice president of research with Dekalb Genetics; Bob Buchanan, Oregon wheat commissioner and representative for the Oregon wheat industry, and representatives of CIMMYT, an international center for wheat and maize improvement.

The symposium is being sponsored by several OSU programs, the Oregon Wheat Commission and the Oregon Wheat Growers League.

The Oregon Wheat Foundation has also established a Warren Kronstad Endowment. Wheat growers have already made several major contributions. Proceeds from the endowment will be used to enhance wheat breeding efforts at OSU.
