CORVALLIS - A leading historian of American foreign relations will deliver the annual Carson History Lecture at Oregon State University on Jan. 25, examining the broad issue of images that Americans have projected abroad.

Emily Rosenberg, the De Witt Wallace Professor of History at Macalaster College will deliver the annual lecture. Titled "Consuming Women: Images of Americanization in the American Century," it will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Construction and Engineering Auditorium of LaSells Stewart Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Rosenberg is noted for her studies and writing on American foreign relations. She has written six books, including the influential "Spreading the American Dream: American Economic and Cultural Expansion, 1890-1945."

In her OSU lecture, she will look at how images of the "modern, consumption-oriented new woman" have formed an aspect of the export of American mass culture in the 20th century. She also will look at the images Americans project abroad and the impact that cultural debates about "Americanization" have had on international politics.
