CORVALLIS - Peggy McIntosh, a nationally recognized expert on race and gender relations, will present a day-long series of lectures and workshops at Oregon State University on Feb. 17.

Most of the sessions are free and open to the public. McIntosh will end the day with a two-hour community forum, starting at 7 p.m. in OSU's LaSells Stewart Center at College Drive and Western Boulevard. McIntosh is an associate director of the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women, based in Wellesley, Mass., and is the founder and co-director of the national Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity project. The S.E.E.D. project works to create curricula sensitive to gender and cultural issues.

She is the author of dozens of papers and articles and her work, "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack," is used at OSU as a tool in diversity discussions. In addition to the community forum, McIntosh's visit to OSU will include a 10 a.m. session aimed at issues of interest in student affairs, a 1 p.m. faculty workshop and a 3:30 p.m. student workshop, all in the Memorial Union ballroom. All of the events are open to the public.

The Minority Education Office at OSU seeks to increase the recruitment, retention and academic performance of students of color. The office also provides educational and cultural information to OSU students and surrounding communities.
