CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will begin offering a series of courses in southern Oregon focusing on health care administration in a collaborative program designed to dovetail with a new master's degree program in management offered by Southern Oregon University.

Beginning this fall, OSU will offer a six-course sequence over the next two years from its nationally recognized Health Care Administration Program. The courses were selected with input from industry leaders and are aimed at persons looking to enter into management or advance in administrative roles, officials say.

The first class, "Health Services Administration and Management," will be held this fall at the Smullin Education Center in Medford. To accommodate working professionals, it will be offered in an intensive weekend format Oct. 9-10 and Nov. 20-21.

Persons interested the class, or other course offerings, should attend one of two informational meetings: Sept. 23, from 7 to 10 p.m., in Ashland Community Hospital's conference room; or Sept. 24, at from 2 to 5 p.m., in the Smullin Center in Medford.

Future course offerings, available for undergraduate or graduate credit, include strategic planning and management of health care organizations; health care laws and regulations; management of human resources in health care settings; financial management of health care organizations; and reimbursement mechanisms.

Credit may be applied toward a degree in health care administration at OSU, or management at Southern Oregon University.
