CORVALLIS - Oregon State University is hosting a series of speakers and events from Oct. 26-30 as part of the fourth annual national observance of October as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month.
The theme this year is: "Find the Facts, Know the Truth." All events are free and open to the public.
The week's activities start at noon on Monday, Oct. 26, with Corvallis resident and teacher Julie Derrick speaking at the OSU Women's Center on "History of the Lesbian Avengers." The Lesbian Avengers is a national activist group.
On Tuesday, Oct. 27, volunteers will open an information booth in the OSU Memorial Union Quad. The booth will remain open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily through Thursday, Oct. 29.
Other events include: "Queers, They're in Your Church," a 60-minute presentation by Susan Shaw, OSU instructor in women's studies, 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, Women's Center; and "Queer Communities: Perspectives from the Field," a 60-minute panel discussion, noon, Friday, Oct. 30, Women's Center.
