CORVALLIS - A leading sport psychologist who is the president of the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology will give a free public lecture at Oregon State University on Thursday, May 21.
Robin Vealey will discuss "Confidence: The Mental Modifier for Athletes" in her presentation, which begins at 7 p.m. in Peavy Hall Room 130.
Vealey's visit is being funded, in part, by a grant from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), with support from OSU's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, College of Health and Human Performance, and Department of Exercise and Sport Science.
Vealey may be best known in the Willamette Valley for her coaching skills. In the late 1970s, she was the volleyball and basketball coach at Linfield College, where she was a runner-up for the "Small College Coach of the Year" in basketball. Vealey has served as a sport psychology consultant to athletes at all levels of competition, including the professional and Olympic level.
In addition to her community presentation, Vealey will meet with coaches, faculty and students in small group forums.
