CORVALLIS - A book co-written by an Oregon State University professor has been chosen as the "Book of the Year" by the Academy of Human Resource Development.
Sam Stern, a professor of education at OSU, and Alan G. Robinson, of the University of Massachusetts, will be honored this Saturday, March 8, for their book, "Corporate Creativity." They will receive the academy's award during the group's annual meeting in Chicago.
The Academy of Human Resource Development is an international group of educators, researchers and business professionals who focus on improving individual and organizational performance.
"Corporate Creativity" takes a critical look at the innovation process at a variety of corporations around the world. During their research, the authors found that many creative acts in business are unplanned, unexpected and come from employees throughout the organization - not just the research and development team.
They also discovered that most true innovation is triggered by individuals' interest in the company, not by a reward system.
"Corporate Creativity" has been featured nationally on several news shows and has received critical acclaim from several business publications, including Business Week and MoneyWORLD.
The authors will be featured this July on PBS The Business Channel as part of the "Cutting Edge" seminar series.
