CORVALLIS - Oregon State University has appointed new executives for the university's student-run newspaper and radio station.
Joy Estimada, an OSU senior in business marketing, will be 1998-99 editor-in-chief of the OSU student newspaper, The Daily Barometer. Kelly Collson, a sophomore in speech communication, will serve as station manager for the student radio station, KBVR-FM.
As Barometer editor, Estimada will manage news operations for the 9,000 circulation publication.
A Gresham resident, Estimada has served as a reporter and as arts and entertainment editor for the Barometer and has also worked in internships with the Portland Business Journal, Pendleton's East Oregonian and The Sun of Bremerton, Wash. In 1997, she earned second-place honors for her work on the Barometer's arts and entertainment section and an honorable mention for best feature story in the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association collegiate newspaper competition.
Collson, a resident of Sandy, Utah, has served as news and public affairs director for KBVR-FM, producing, directing and hosting a weekly public affairs program. She has also composed and edited public service announcements and hosted a weekly folk music show.
The station, at 88.7 on the radio dial, schedules a variety of formats, including talk shows, news and cultural programming, but focuses on music.
Collson also performed volunteer work for Project Vote Smart, a national non-partisan, non-profit group that offers information on more than 13,000 candidates and elected officials.
