CORVALLIS - A Eugene couple was honored recently for their 41 years of volunteer work with the Oregon 4-H Youth Development Program in Lane County and at the state level.

Enid and Lamoine Savage received the Volunteer Excellence Award during the Western Regional 4-H Leader's Forum in Albuquerque, N.M., according to Lillian Larwood, Oregon State University Extension 4-H specialist.

"The Savages are committed to excellence and have willingly given of their time and themselves," Larwood said.

They both started out as leaders of 4-H clubs. Enid has been an adult leader of 4-H clubs in home economics and youth leadership. Lamoine Savage, an independent building contractor, led 4-H clubs in woodworking and leathercraft.

On the state level, they each served as president of the Oregon 4-H Advisory Council and as trustees on the Oregon 4-H Foundation Board. They are also in demand around the state as 4-H judges for home economics and woodworking projects.

Both are serving on the State 4-H Awards and Recognition Committee - Enid on the Recognition and Incentives Committee and Lamoine on the 4-H Conference and Education Center Advisory Committee. They have also supported the local Extension office and served on the Lane County Extension Advisory Committee. They helped raise funds to keep the Lane County Extension office open during the 1980s and to promote the serial levy that provides the county portion of funding for Extension programs.
