CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Press will begin selling and distributing its books through the University of Arizona Press beginning this July 1.

The agreement represents "an important step in the continued growth" of the press, according to Jeffrey Grass, director of the OSU Press.

"This change means that we will be able to continue our recent growth and expand into new markets without having to upgrade our in-house order processing capability," Grass said. "Having Arizona handle our distribution will allow us more time to actively seek out important book projects and to work with booksellers, librarians, and reviewers to get our books into the hands of readers."

The OSU Press is Oregon's only university press. It publishes 12 to 15 books per year and over the next several years, Grass said, the plan is to expand manuscript acquisition and marketing efforts, allowing the press to publish 20 books annually.

The number of sales representatives selling OSU Press books will expand from one (serving five Pacific Northwest states) to 17 serving the entire United States, Grass pointed out.

The change will benefit both individual customers and booksellers, he added. Both will be able to place orders using Arizona's 1-800 number.

Distribution of OSU Press books in Canada will continue to be handled by the University of British Columbia Press.
