CORVALLIS - Vicki Fry of Roseburg has been awarded the $1,500 Babe Coe Memorial Scholarship in recognition of her achievements in 4-H.

The scholarship is intended to encourage outstanding 4-H members to pursue further education and is presented in memory of Beverly "Babe" Coe, a longtime Wasco County 4-H leader from Maupin.

It also recognizes outstanding leadership, character and citizenship, and goes to someone who is likely to apply 4-H training and experience in choosing a career, according to Duane Johnson, Oregon State University Extension 4-H youth development specialist.

Fry plans to attend Umpqua Community College where she will study home economics.

Fry, who recently graduated from Roseburg High School, has participated in 4-H for nine years. Her 4-H activities focused on sewing, foods, fiber arts, child development and leadership. For the past two years she has been the Douglas County representative to the Oregon 4-H Ambassadors, a statewide leadership program that promotes 4-H in local communities.

Fry was selected for the Coe Scholarship from a group of 36 finalists, one from each county in Oregon.
