CORVALLIS - Oregon State University's Music a la Carte concert series will feature the instrumental group "Thousand Pieces" on Thursday, Jan. 22. The free public concert begins at noon in OSU's Memorial Union Lounge.

Thousand Pieces travels and performs widely throughout the Pacific Northwest, playing an eclectic blend of jazz, funk, and rock. Band members are Troy Grugett on saxophone, Lance Morrison on drums, Daniel Scollard on bass and Mark France on guitar. The informal, 45-minute concert is free and open to the public.

Saxophonist Grugett's skills as a composer and improviser have led him to performances with legendary jazz pianist Andrew Hill and comedian George Burns. He lives in Seattle, where he pursues music performance, instruction and instrument repair.

Morrison, when not drumming with Thousand Pieces, devotes much of his time to producing and exhibiting paintings throughout the West as well as teaching painting courses at Marylhurst College in Portland.

Bass player Scollard's career has embraced a wide variety of musical styles, from klezmer to traditional jazz to rock. He participates in many regional music festivals, and pursues music performance and instruction full time.

Guitarist France performs and teaches music, both privately and as an instructor with the OSU Department of Music. He performs solo classical guitar and in several other performance groups.
