CORVALLIS - Jane Lubchenco, a distinguished professor of zoology at Oregon State University, is being awarded the Conservation Medal by the Mt. Hood Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Lubchenco, who chairs the board of directors of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is the Wayne and Gladys Valley Professor of Marine Biology at OSU, will be recognized for her contributions to the field of environmental science and research.

The Conservation Medal recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to preservation of the global environment, including the wise use, repair and restoration of the Earth's resources. Lubchenco has been a leading international advocate for new approaches to deal with global climate change, species extinction, habitat protection and other environmental issues.
