NEWPORT - A series of seminars intended to bring fishermen up-to-date on research relating to current fishery issues is now available on videotape for those who were unable to attend the lectures.

Sponsored by OSU Extension Sea Grant, the free, monthly series at OSU's Hatfield Marine Science Center features scientists from OSU and the National Marine Fisheries Service discussing recent research into fisheries, ocean climate changes, seafood marketing and value-added seafood products.

The first two seminars feature OSU fisheries scientist David Sampson describing developments in groundfish stock assessments and fisheries biologist Pete Lawson of the National Marine Fisheries Service discussing how long-term climate shifts may affect fisheries. They will be available by early February for loan from coastal Extension offices, some Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife offices and several trade organizations.

Similar tapes will be produced for the remaining seminars, featuring OSU researchers Gil Sylvia and Michael Morrissey, on Feb. 12 and March 12, respectively.

The VHS tapes, produced by Oregon Sea Grant, run approximately one hour and 45 minutes apiece.
