COOS BAY - The act of succession - when a business makes the transition from one generation to the next - may be the most challenging issue that family business owners face, said Patricia Frishkoff, director of Oregon State University's Austin Family Business Program.

To promote business success, the Austin Family Business Program, with sponsorship by U.S. Bank, will hold a succession workshop in Coos Bay for family business owners.

The four-hour workshop starts at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28 at Thomas and Sons, 840 S. Front St. A working lunch and tour of Thomas and Sons begins at noon.

Registration is $75, or $50 for business customers of U.S. Bank. The fee includes lunch and advance registration is required. For information and registration details, contact OSU's Austin Family Business Program at 800-859-7609 or 541-737-3326.

Topics will include strategies for succession survival and effective trusts. A panel of family business owners will also discuss what they learned during their own successions.

The Austin Family Business Program, which began in 1985, provides hands-on learning to help business owners manage day-to-day operations and plan for future generations.
