CORVALLIS - A University of New Mexico administrator has been named the new vice president for institutional advancement at Oregon State University.
Orcilia Zúñiga-Forbes, who has served in a similar capacity at New Mexico since 1995, will begin her new position at OSU in January.
"We're extremely pleased to attract Dr. Zúñiga-Forbes to Oregon State University," said President Paul Risser, announcing the appointment. "She brings to OSU outstanding credentials. At New Mexico, she has led major philanthropic initiati ves, has redirected alumni affairs and has helped to build critical networks among key constituencies.
"Her work with the private sector and her experience as a former community leader in Portland will energize OSU's efforts to improve in all areas of advancement," Risser added. "Hers will be an important role as we continue our momentum for Oregon Stat e from both the private and public sector."
In her new position, Zúñiga-Forbes will become the university's senior administrative officer for alumni relations, development, communications, marketing, and community and government relations. She will also serve as executive liaison t o the OSU Alumni Association and the OSU Foundation.
Zúñiga-Forbes' career has included extensive administrative experience at Portland State University. She joined PSU as an assistant director of health services in 1965 and held positions as assistant dean, dean of students, vice president and vice provost for student affairs from 1972 to 1988.
After serving as an assistant to Oregon Gov. Neil Goldschmidt, she became vice president for student affairs at New Mexico in 1989. She held the UNM student affairs vice presidency before becoming the university's vice president for institutional advan cement in 1995.
Zúñiga-Forbes earned her B.S. degree from New Mexico, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Oregon, and a M.P.H. degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
