CORVALLIS - Edward C. Jensen, an associate professor of forest biology in the College of Forestry at Oregon State University, has received the highest award made by the Society of American Foresters to an educator.

Jensen received the Carl Alwin Schenck Award for excellence in the field of forestry education, which included a plaque and honorarium of $500. The society is the leading national organization of professional foresters.

Jensen, an expert in instructional design and delivery, directs the Forestry Media Center at OSU. He also teaches several undergraduate courses, heads a graduate program in natural resource education, and coordinates the Natural Resources Institute, a continuing education program involving multiple universities, dozens of faculty and a coalition of government agencies and private organizations.

Among his teaching innovations are a widely-recognized World Wide Web site, a CD-ROM on tree identification and a series of audio-visual programs that are used throughout North America.

Jensen received a Ph.D. in forestry education in 1989 and has been on the OSU faculty since 1976.f
