CORVALLIS - A Benton County woman known for her workshops on humor has been named State Leader of the Year by the Oregon 4-H Leaders Association.

Nellie Oehler has been a 4-H volunteer for 32 years.

"During that time, Oehler has contributed her time, her knowledge of home economics and livestock, and her capability as a leader to 4-H activities locally and statewide," said Lillian Larwood, Oregon State University Extension 4-H Youth specialist.

In addition to leading 4-H clubs in home economics and livestock, she served as 4-H Sheep Superintendent and Master Showmanship Coordinator at the Benton County Fair for many years. At the state level, she trains both junior and adult 4-H leaders and is the 4-H herdsmanship judge at the Oregon State Fair.

She has hosted many foreign participants in the 4-H Japanese-Korean Exchange Program and the International 4-H Foreign Youth Exchange Program. Oehler lives in Corvallis. Prior to coming to Benton County, she was a 4-H leader in Linn County.
