CORVALLIS -A top state official has been named associate provost for information services at Oregon State University.

Curt Pederson, the chief information officer for the Oregon Department of Administrative Services (DAS), will begin directing the university's telecommunications, library and computing services effective Aug. 4, OSU Provost Roy Arnold said today.

"We are extremely pleased to attract Curt Pederson to OSU," Arnold said. "His experience in developing Oregon's integrated technology services, and in moving our state to the cutting edge of new technologies brings unique knowledge and leadership to OSU and to our efforts to expand educational services throughout the state."

Pederson fills a vacancy created earlier this summer when Joy Hughes left the position to become a vice president at James Madison University in Virginia. As associate provost, he will direct OSU's central computing, communication media center, distance education, network services, and library system.

Pederson has headed technology services for DAS since 1994. His previous experience includes ownership of his own consulting company, serving as assistant director of information services for the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, and extensive experience in the public utility industry.

He is first vice president of the National Association of State Information Resource Executives and a charter member of the Project Management Institute. Pederson holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Puget Sound and a master's degree from Seattle University.
