CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will host a number of events in February as part of Black History Month, including a talk by Hall of Fame basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
February is designated Black History Month at OSU to highlight the achievements and struggles of African Americans from the past to the present.
Abdul-Jabbar, considered one of the top professional basketball players of all-time, will speak on "Black Profiles in Courage," at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12 in OSU's Gill Coliseum. The event is free and open to the public.
A free screening of director Spike Lee's feature film, "Get on the Bus," is scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, in OSU's Milam Auditorium. The film follows 12 African American men as they ride a bus from Los Angeles toward the Million Man March in Washington, D.C.
The movie explores diversity and divisions within the black community.
Portland engineer and science educator, Kamau Sadiki, will speak on "African American Contributions to American History," at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 17, in OSU's Memorial Union Room 208.
