CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will host an free hour-long public discussion on racial reconciliation on Wednesday, Dec. 3, an event tied into a national teleconference.

Events get under way at 8 a.m. in OSU's Kidder Hall Room 202 as President Clinton takes part in "One America," a 90-minute televised talk on race that originates from Akron, Ohio, said Scott Palmer, OSU director of Student Advocacy. OSU's discussion will start immediately after Clinton's talk.

Clinton will join nine panelists, including young and adult Americans as well as contemporary authors who study and write on the topic of racial reconciliation in America, Palmer said.

Selected comments from OSU will be forwarded directly to the White House for use in future policy formulation, Palmer said. Both OSU and Associated Students of OSU are national sponsors of the One America campaign.

"We are absolutely thrilled that the President's One America initiative has invited us to participate," Palmer said. "It speaks not only of our past involvement in national issues such as race and education reform, but also indicates students at OSU will have a future role in these national discussions."

Clinton started "One America in the 21st Century: The President's Initiative on Race," on June 14. The effort is focused on moving toward a more unified, stronger America.
