CORVALLIS - An Oregon State University faculty member has been selected as a Junior Fulbright Scholar and will spend the 1997-98 academic year in Brno in the Czech Republic.
Craig Machado, an instructor in OSU's English Language Institute, will work with the Department of English and Pedagogical Faculty at Masaryk University. Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, is in the heart of Moravia.
Masaryk University is known for its scientific and technical programs, and for its teacher training. Machado will teach courses in American literature and pop culture, and give seminars to Czech students majoring in English to help them prepare to become teachers.
Machado also has been asked to give lectures on other aspects of teacher preparation and his role in the English Language Institute.
A 1974 graduate of the University of California-Davis, Machado has a master's degree from San Francisco State University. He has been on the OSU faculty since 1990.
