ORVALLIS - An Oregon State University student took fifth place in free pistol at the National Intercollegiate Target Pistol Championships in Colorado Springs.
Roy Hedges, an OSU senior in mechanical engineering from Beaverton, is a member of the OSU Recreational Pistol Club. He also competed in the nationals in 1995 and 1996.
In free pistol, competitors use a .22-caliber pistol, free of restrictions.
"I placed sixth in the preliminary match," Hedges said. "The top eight shooters shot 10 more shots in a final match to determine final placement. The final score is added to the preliminary score for a total overall score. I shot the third highest finals score and moved up to fifth place."
