CORVALLIS - Alison Jaggar, a noted author and feminist, will speak at Oregon State University on Monday, April 21, on recent court challenges to affirmative action in higher education.

Jaggar's lecture, "Gender, Race and Difference: Individual Consideration vs. Group-Based Affirmative Action to Higher Education," will begin at 7 p.m. in OSU's Milam Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Jaggar is a professor of philosophy and women studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. An internationally recognized feminist, she has received the Distinguished Woman Philosophy Award from the Society of Women in Philosophy. She also has received a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship and two grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Jaggar is the author of five books and is the recipient of a 1998 NEH grant to complete her latest work, "A Feminist Theory of Moral Reason."

In her OSU talk, Jaggar will analyze two recent federal court cases challenging affirmative action.

Her appearance is sponsored by OSU's Department of Philosophy and several other campus and community organizations.
