CORVALLIS - As part of Mathematics Awareness Week this month, one of the world's leading experts in cryptography and other related mathematical concepts will present the 20th annual Milne Lecture on Tuesday, April 8, at Oregon State University.

Andrew Odlyzko, the head of Mathematics and Cryptography Research for AT and T Laboratories, will speak on "Zeros of the Riemann Zeta Function: Conjectures and Computations," which relates to the Riemann Hypothesis, now the most famous unsolved problem in mathematics.

The lecture will be at 4 p.m. in Dearborn Hall, Room 118. It is free and open to the public.

Odlyzko will also present a talk on "Electronic Cash and Mathematics" on Wednesday, April 9, at 4 p.m. in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Building, Room 101.

Odlyzko received his doctorate in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a widely recognized expert in cryptography, computational complexity, number theory, combinatorics, coding theory, analysis and probability theory.

In recent years he has also been writing extensively about electronic publishing and electronic commerce.
