CORVALLIS - John Evey, director of development at Oregon State University since 1986, has resigned from OSU to become vice president for institutional advancement at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.

Evey was instrumental in helping Oregon State raise more than $20 million in private gifts to support expansion of The Valley Library. Groundbreaking for the $40 million project began May 24.

He also helped boost annual gifts to OSU during his 10 years with the university, including $43 million in 1995-96.

Before becoming director of development, Evey headed Oregon State's FourSight! program, a four-year sustained major gift campaign to benefit OSU programs in gene research and biotechnology, advanced materials research, the marine sciences, and humanities.

Evey previously was executive vice president of the Oregon Advocates of the Arts, 1980-85, and director of resource development with the Oregon Shakespearean Festival Association, 1976-80. He is a 1971 graduate of OSU.

The appointment will take effect later this summer, UOP officials say.
