CORVALLIS - Students in the Oregon State University Department of Horticulture have been awarded $35,000 in scholarships for the 1996-97 academic year.

"The department's scholarship fund includes gifts from several donors and endowments to the department," said Anita Green, head adviser for undergraduate students in the horticulture department. "Some scholarship recipients are screened, interviewed and selected by the donors. Other recipients are selected by the department's scholarship committee."

Scholarship recipients are: BROOKS: Christina Adelman, sophomore, horticultural science, $2,000 Oregon Horticultural Society Award.

CANBY: Brian Montecucco, junior, horticultural science, $1,000 Oregon Horticultural Society Award; James P. Simnitt, freshman, horticulture, $1,000 Nurserymen's Foundation Award.

COOS BAY: Pete Mahaffy, sophomore, horticultural science, $1,000 General Dillingham Produce Industry Scholarship.

CORVALLIS: Star Heilman, senior, horticultural science, $500 Grow and Show Garden Club Scholarship, and $1,000 OSU Horticulture Club Scholarship; Ken Nice, post-baccalaureate, turf and landscape, $1,000 Trans-Mississippi Golf Association Award (1995-96), and $1,000 AgrEVO Turf Company Scholarship.

EAGLE POINT: Angela Bluhm, senior, horticultural science, $1,000 Ezra J. Kraus Memorial Scholarship.

EUGENE: Michael Dorris, post-baccalaureate, horticultural science, $728 Jane Kerr Platt Memorial Scholarship.

HOOD RIVER: Derek DeBorde, junior, horticultural science, $1,000 General Dillingham Produce Industry Scholarship.

McMINNVILLE: Susan Knight, senior, turf and landscape, $1,000 Ezra J. Kraus Memorial Scholarship; Paul Rozek, senior, turf and landscape, $1,000 Oregon Nurserymen's Foundation Patio Alliance Award, and $500 Oregon Golf Course Superintendent's Association Scholarship.
