Although the Internet contains a wealth of resources, until now there have been very few scholarly journals available with the full-text of articles. But that is changing. The OSU Library and Information Services is now offering campus network users the ability to search and retrieve full-text articles online through our first major experiment with full text online. Throughout this year OSU campus network users will be able to access ACADEMIC INDEX which allows users to search for articles in some 2500 journals. Full text retrieval is possible for articles in about 500 journal titles such as:
A companion service is the GENERAL BUSINESS FILE which includes profiles of some 150,000 businesses, and many full text articles in such journals as FORBES; JOURNAL OF MONEY; SUCCESS; and CREDIT & BANKING.
The online provider for this experiment is Information Access Corporation (IAC) based in Massachusetts. The search software will be housed in Information Services and will be accessible through the campus network. To access the IAC databases you can use it from the CD Center in the Library, or go through the campus network via telnet. Just telnet to "ucs.orst.edu" and enter "iac" (lower case) at the login prompt, then press ENTER at the password prompt.
To access IAC from off campus, you will need a valid account on usc.orst.edu. You then use your own ID and password to login. Enter "iac" at the Unix prompt. More details about using IAC can be found in the users' guide available in the Library. Users can print citations and ASCII full text at their printers, but also will be able to print graphic images in the CD area of the Library. IAC is planning to offer this service via the Web sometime this Spring.
For questions about IAC call the Library's Information Desk at (541) 737-7295.
