CORVALLIS - The author of a new biography on William Appleman Williams - noted American foreign policy critic and former Oregon State University faculty member - will read from his book on Thursday, April 11, at OSU.
Author Paul Buhle will read from "William Appleman Williams: The Tragedy of Empire" at 3:30 p.m. in OSU's Memorial Union Room 206. The reading is free and open to the public.
Williams, a member of the history faculty at OSU from 1968-86, was one of America's most prominent scholars on foreign policy. His 1959 book, "The Tragedy of American Foreign Policy," helped frame the public discussion about the U.S. role in Southeast Asia.
Buhle was one of his graduate students when Williams was on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin. Buhle since has written several books on radical traditions.
Copies of "The Tragedy of Empire" will be available at the reading.
